DRAGON DREAMING FESTIVAL 4th-6th of October 2008!!!

SET TIMES HERE!!!

Artists, performers, musicians and lovers of outdoor festivals are converging from all over Australia to experience what is shaping up to be one of the biggest yearly festivals of this type Australia wide.

Our ethos is to promote local artists of all kinds nurturing and uniting our community to bring you an arts, music and culture festival experience that will stay with you forever.

There will be four main areas representing the four elements: The Fire Dragon stage, Water Dragon stage, Air Dragon stage and Earth Dragon stage. The fifth element is LOVE!

Fire Dragon!
If you have ever had the pleasure of witnessing the massive mind-boggling visual and sound experience presented by REGEN’s beautiful bush regeneration music festivals, you’ll have some idea of the visual and sound extravaganza of the Fire Dragon stage. Lovers of the best of the best in phat dance music will wet themselves over this lineup, with artists such as Sensient, Charlie McMahon, SETH, Onda, and so much more! (See below for the full list)

Earth Dragon!
Imagine a massive tent (big enough to fit a house in three times over) filled with couches, cushions, carpet, soft lighting and all things comfortable. Live instrumental world music, chilled dub beats, and other earthy sounds will also feature along with a number of food stalls, comedy and live performance! Many thanks to ‘Ixchel’ crew from Sydney who continue to provide the highest quality in alternative club nights with all their profits going to charity and a loving atmosphere we will always remember.

Water Dragon!
Burning up from the fire stage? Cool down at the Water Dragon with funky minimal, twisted electro, and smooth progressive beats. An eclectic mix presented by SoS, guaranteed to keep you dancing without frying your feet.

Air Dragon!
All things mysterious and magical buried deep within the dark forest. Crystal meditation areas, workshops, and the Mind Revolution Cinema.

On your journey between the stages expect the strange. Weird structures, exotic performers, bizarre villages selling wonderful wares and artists of all types. Bring your tents sleeping bags and everything you will need for a three-day journey into sound, art, dance and magic.

And beware! For here be Dragons… ;-)

Lineup

SENSIENT (Live) www.myspace.com/zenonrecords

SENSIENT is 26 year old Tim Larner from Melbourne, Australia. A drummer from the age of twelve, his early days in the outdoor scene were spent in the rainforests of Byron Bay, soaking up the vibe and inspirations of such a beautiful place, before turning his attention to music. Now he has developed his own unique style of atmospheric, dark, deep and funky progressive psy. In 2003 he set up his own label Zenon Records, which he has built into one of the most respected minimal/progressive labels in the scene. In April 2005, having returned from an international tour, he released his second album "Pressure Optimal" on Zenon which was heralded as a landmark release in the minimal progressive trance genre. In 2005 he made a 4 month tour of Europe and Brazil where he played at some of the biggest festivals including Voov Experience, Fusion Festival, Arvika Festival and the incredible Boom Festival. His most recent release, Antifluoro, has made ripples around the world, defining Sensient once again as as one of Australia’s, and indeed the worlds, major psychedelic artists. Fresh from yet another tour of the global festival scene, Sensient is an experience not to be missed.

SPOONBILL (live) www.spoonbill.net.au

Spoonbill aka Jim Moynihan grew up in the bush north of Melbourne, discovering the excitement of playing the drums at the age of 12. He began playing gigs in pubs before legally being allowed to enter. Spoonbill crafts an elegant and quirky symphony of honey-scented grooves, jovial humour and joyous beat trickery, melding an ever-evolving array of styles into a distinctive ozzie blend. From its richly textured electronic centre to the live licks around its jazzier edges, the Spoonbill sound is sure to get those toes tappin and sand shoes shufflin on the floor.

QUENCH (live) www.myspace.com/totalquench

Quench is Ben Paetz who hails from Hobart Tasmania. Ben has studied and played classical music in various groups and collaborations over the years. He has been a mainstay of the Tasmanian psytrance scene for several years both as Quench and as half of the Mycosonic project. Quench is ready to disseminate the psychedelic energy of the apple isle to Canberra for the first time.

Rhythm Organism (live) www.charliemcmahon.com
Charlie McMahon, recognised as one of the world's best didjeridoo players. Experiments by Charlie led to the development of a SEISMIC recording device (Face Bass) used to stunning effect on the release, XENOPHON. The Face Bass picks up the didjeridoo vibrations in Charlie's body giving the didjeridoo a more complex and deeper sound.

S.E.T.H (live) www.myspace.com/psychedelicseth

S.E.T.H has been producing trance music and psychedelic down tempo beats since 2002. His signature style is "transitional" night music with a pinch of gutteral vocals and lashings of relentless trance.

Oxygene (live/VJ) www.myspace.com/o2e

The human behind the Oxygene project resides in Melbourne, has many varying polymathic projects, both creative and intellectual. The Oxygene moniker is to provide bounds to that part of his creative pursuits defined as psychedelic electronic music that is not reliant on traditional 'dance' or 'electronic' structure. It varies strongly in tempo and structure and is written in a more 'stream of consciousness' state of mind rather than worrying about traditional forms.

Satori (live) www.myspace.com/sat0ridarkpsy

Satori is Wollongong born Rory Robinson. After years of dj'ing at parties around Sydney and Melbourne the Satori project was born, playing alongside acts like Mr Peculiar, Chromotone, Hefty Output, Decibel, Syzmix, Pondscum, Penta, Blanka.....etc. Satori's focus is on diversity, psychedelic music to waken your senses with hypnotic basslines, twisted structures, a hint of melody and a heap of white noise.

Favourite Son (live acoustic) www.myspace.com/unomatteo

For the past 6 years Favourite Son have been travelling around the globe and performing with a world/dance outfit called OKA. In the past six months he has split from them to produce some music on his own. A live journey through chilled beats to tasty dance, with live percussion, vocals and bass

Anjay www.myspace.com/anjayaustralia

Anjay has been a mainstay of the Canberra dance scene for over 12 years. Delivering signature minimal electro with huge warm driving basslines, Anjay smashed the dance floor at our Galactic Centre event last year with a standout performance. We are proud to welcome Anjay back to Dragon Dreaming.

Paqman (live) www.myspace.com/paqmanelectronica

With a big "fuck off" experimental electronica sound and having supported acts like Garth Emery, Endorphin, DJ Archie and 28 Days, Paqman are an act to follow in 2008. James Hewson and Hayden Quinn create a stunning set of live and original electronic music. For the past 2 years, Hayden and James have been working on their full-length debut 'Deux', a beautiful masterpiece that manages to capture the essence of the Paqman live experience. The album is a concept piece that discusses the idea of dualism, exploring the kinship and disharmony between two sides of one story, and intends to show that contrasting ideas aren't necessarily the complete inverse.

ONDA (live)

Playing for the first time outdoors, Onda is a duo creation founded in the latin climes of Argentina. Two friends whose ideas mesh to create deep and twisting full-on psychedelic sounds. They are the combination of established artists of A'kin and Thermohaline combined.

Sunrunner (live) www.myspace.com/sunrunnerepp

Sunrunner was born from a blazing ray of sunshine that burst through a legion of puffy white clouds one afternoon in November. Starting out as a small ball of light, Sunrunner eventually became more of a consciousness and acquired some technology to start working on music. After many nights of producing random blips and beeps, things started to sound a little less like a computer shorting out and more like a piece of electronic music.

Progressive music with a psychedelic and sunny edge, combining trippy sounds, emotive melodies and lush pads, Sunrunner's sound is reminiscent of the Australian bush and outback on a slightly psychedelic afternoon.

Meltdown (live) www.myspace.com/meltdownproducer

Meltdown is a well known act in the Sydney scene. Having DJ'd regularly since the early-mid 90's, and with releases on EPP Records and Vibrating Balance Records, Adam has performed far & wide throughout Europe, New Caledonia, and across Australia, headlining many festivals and parties both internationally and locally. 2008 has seen Adam booked at events including Tribeadelic NYE and Regrowth Festivals, and alongside names such as D-Nox and Eat Static.

The project name describes the music, with a deep and liquiescent feel that has been described as a "late morning festival" sound. Expect deep, open and tribal but driving progressive music fused with elements of minimal, psychedelic and techno which is bound to move the dancefloor with drinks in hands and smiles on faces.

WideSpread (live)

A new live project from Sydney producer Fracas. Described as progressive
hypnotic house minus any cheese.

Pspiralife www.myspace.com/pspiralife

Psriralife is Shayne Rogers, born and raised in old Hobart town in Van Deimens land. An ex student of Conservatorium Of Music Hobart, studied Jazz, Latin and funk. Together we can change to make a better future :) PEACE LOVE AND HARMONY

Mandala (live acoustic)

The word 'Mandala' has come to mean a picture pattern that is symbolically representative of the greater Universe. To focus on it is to be induced into an inner space, in order to achieve ONENESS WITH THE ALL.

That is what Mandala seeks to induce in its audiences. It plays dance music from all over the world, our ‘one world’. They groove to the beats of Africa with Alpha Blondy and Habib Koite; Islander’s O-Shen, Matato’a, and Te Vaka; the Arabic rhythms of Hisham Abbas and Amr Diab; Indian; Pakistani; Latin; Hungarian gypsy; French; Irish; Israeli and Klesmer.

Listening to them is a cultural tour of the world, and a challenge to bring your dance body in with the different styles of each culture. It is FUN FUN FUN to be global!!

Duo Chichilena (live acoustic)

Duo Chichilena comprises of classical guitarist Milena Cifali and jazz/world flautist Cicilia Kemezys. They bring a special magic to the Latin American classical guitar repertoire with the combination of Milena's technical virtuosity and Cicilia's equally virtuosic jazz improvisations. Their repertoire includes works by Heitor Villalobos, Jorge Cardoso, Antonio Carlos Jobim, J.S.Bach as well as their own original and eclectic compostions. Prepare to be entranced by this magical combination!

Simone Penkethman (live acoustic)

Canberra chanteuse, Simone Penkethman's songs are microcosms of story. They walk the crooked line between wry, dry observation, poignance and passion. Simone tells it like it is and somehow makes that beautiful. She's married to her maton guitar (though she loves her cherry-red mistress). She also works in theatre, circus and community cultural development. She's a mother and a dog-lover who knows that singing makes you happy.
